Compare Architectural UHPC to Precast
TAKTL is structurally more comparable to steel than traditional concrete. As a result, far less material (-70%) is needed to achieve the same structural requirements. The secret of TAKTL’s exceptional strength lies in carefully calibrated ratios of ingredients that allow molecules to pack densely together and bond tightly. This high packing density yields excellent flexural strength that is over four times higher than normal concrete.
Performance Comparison: TAKTL with Traditional Concrete
High strength leads to much lower weight, less sub-structure when used as a facade or wall panel as well as lower shipping and installation costs. Additionally, longer structural spans with thinner sections allow us to achieve new forms, profiles, and geometries.
Durability Comparison: TAKTL with Traditional Concrete
Traditional precast concrete often fails because water and salt (marine and road) are absorbed over time into its pores. The water then freezes and cracks the concrete from the inside out; the chloride ions penetrate the matrix and eventually break down steel reinforcements. As shown in the diagram, TAKTL is so dense and has so few capillary pores that it absorbs almost no water over time and does not require a coating to enhance durability; therefore, it has excellent freeze-thaw performance and is highly resistant to salt.
Environmental Performance Comparison: TAKTL with Traditional Concrete
TAKTL’s exceptional strength and durability means that much less material is required, translating into lighter weight, less structure, less freight in and out, and a dramatically lower impact on the environment when compared to traditional concrete.
